On June 28, 2017, only 6 days ago, I was diagnosed with Diabetes. To be honest, I was not that surprised, I mean I have been dealing with obesity for most of my adult life. When I left High School, I weighed 180lbs at 6’0 (82kg and 183cm). Fast forward close to 20 years, and I am up to 371lbs (168kg), over twice what I originally weighed. So in all aspects, it was really just a matter of time before I got diagnosed. Both my mother and brother are diabetic, and each of them has given me many warnings about my health. Of course, being who I am, stubborn as a mule, I ignored them both. There have been many opportunities over the years to get my ass in gear and start watching myself. Each of those chances has been met with my lazy side, you know the side that would rather sit on the couch and play games or watch a movie than going for a walk. That’s been my mentality for he last 30 years. Due to that mentality, I got into a sedentary lifestyle. As a Linux Server Administrator, my job isn’t exactly an active one, and when I get home, I have my dinner and hop on Netflix or play on my PS4 with my buddies online. The odd time I would go out with friends, but more often than not, I didn’t do much. This is what has to change. I have received my wake up call.
